Review: Guns N' Roses

By Heather Collins

Are you ready for your Guns N’ Roses and a free Dr. Pepper?

In early March 2008, Dr. Pepper made a commitment to all Americans that if Guns N’ Roses released their album Chinese Democracy this year – They would give every American a free

Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper and drum roll please…

The November release of Guns N’ Roses newest album Chinese Democracy reminds fans that, indeed, nothing lasts forever in the cold November rain, and the wait is finally over.

As lead singer, Axl Rose, once told us, “All it takes is just a little patience…”

It’s been 17 long, long, long Novembers since Guns N’ Roses have released an original album and just when you thought you couldn’t wait one more minute to hear that signature Axl Rose screech – Rose makes us wait, one more minute.

While the screech isn’t the snake-slithering ay-yi-yi Rose mesmerized fans with in the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’ll send a shiver up your spine.

The introduction to track two, “Shackler’s Revenge,” starts with a bitter spoonful of what sounds like bad ‘90s Metallica leftovers, but the song still ends with a sweet screeching dessert, making the song sinfully palatable.

The dark and dreary Buckethead guitar solos are a little much, but it still has that Axl Rose touch – a long awaited touch.

(Just remember – If you still can’t swallow Buckethead replacing Slash, you can always take a swig of that free Dr. Pepper.)

The title to track three, “Better,” definitely describes the way this album is going – Better, and by track thirteen entitled, “This I love” a beautiful piano-driven ballad reminiscent of “November Rain” fans will be saying this I love…too. Overall, Axl Rose has rose again with guns a-blazin’!

Release date: November 23, 2008
