Expo Suggests: Incredible Taste
Local ice creame shop provides low-calorie alternatives for those who crave sweet treats
By Natalie Moya
Affectionately called “IY” by its fans, Incredible Yogurt offers visitors sweet treats without guilt.
Incredible Yogurt is different from other frozen treat stops: five of its six flavors of frozen yogurt are 100 percent fat free. The sixth variety, peanut butter, is not completely fat free, but it is still 98 percent fat free. Other options are: sugar free, no sugar added, low lactose or lactose free. The flavors change daily.
“I think these days everyone is so health conscious,” says Adrienne Smith, Incredible Yogurt owner.
However, Just because the desserts have fewer calories doesn’t mean they are lacking in flavor. Smith says the frozen yogurt tastes just like soft-serve ice cream. Incredible Yogurt offers more than 50 toppings to choose from and many pre-imagined combos to satisfy the taste buds. It doesn’t just carry the standard Oreos, chocolate syrup and maraschino cherries, either. Customers can pick from creative add-ins like maple walnuts, cheesecake bites, Andes mint pieces and Nerds. Not sure what you want? Taste a free sample.
Customers can dig into a Banana Merger, Chocolate Mud Sundae or parfait. They can also slurp a smoothie or yogurt shake. Incredible Yogurt also makes homemade waffle cones each day and bakes its own mini muffins, short cakes and apple dumplings.
Although it is a family-owned store with only one location, Incredible Yogurt can make almost anything that the Dairy Queen next door can.
“They’re not as big a competition as you would think,” Smith says.
Dairy Queen will always have its unique items, she says; but Incredible Yogurt can make most of the same creations without all the fat and calories.
“I think a lot of people don’t realize that even if you’re watching what you eat, [you can] still have that sweet tooth,” Smith says.
Although its name emphasizes its frozen selections, Incredible Yogurt also offers hot meals and fresh sandwiches. Customers can precede their yogurt with a bowl of one of seven daily low fat soups, a deli sandwich, a salad or an order of cheese-filled Bosco Stix.
Having taken root in Muncie 22 years ago, Incredible Yogurt has been serving Ball State students for more than two decades. Smith, the third owner of the establishment, understands how important Ball State students are to her business.
“For some reason Ball State students love Incredible Yogurt,” Smith says. “Everyone I talk to from Ball State knows someone who loves it.” |
